A strange thing happened to Never Shout Never‘s Christofer Drew on a recent trip to the West Coast. During his month-long sojourn in California, the 20 year-old says he unexpectedly “got super into the rave scene, and understood that there’s more to life than pretending to be Bob Dylan. I learned a lot about myself.”
And this from a guy who made a name for himself as a singer-songwriter modeled, in part, after Bob Dylan, under the moniker Never Shout Never. But now, Drew says, the band name is no longer just a moniker. They’re an actual band. And while they might not be making the kind of music that Drew heard at those California raves, Never Shout Never’s latest effort, Time Travel, certainly sports a more experimental, layered rock sound than Drew’s previous effort, Harmony, which was produced by Butch Vig. This one was produced by the musicians themselves, acting for the first time as a real band. And it shows. What follows is the sound of a fully realized, four-piece unit at their moment of self-discovery. For his part, Drew is even calling this album a “rebirth.”
Time Travel will drop on September 20th and is available for preorder, but you can stream it here, now.
