‘Cheap’ Talk for Keith Richards
The New York party for Keith Richards‘ smashing solo debut, Talk Is Cheap, was a family affair. Joining the solo Stone at the Acme Bar and Grill were his father, Bert, his wife, Patti Hansen, and their two daughters. Also present was Iggy Pop.
“Keith is the reason I started playing,” said Iggy as Richards greeted him. He then reminisced about the time he opened for the Stones. “Wonderful gig, wasn’t it?” said Keith, imitating someone hurling things. “I was wearing a miniskirt and stockings,” explained Iggy. Richards confirmed that he’ll soon tour. When reminded that Mick Jagger was touring Australia and South America, he replied, “I don’t care where he is as long as he stays a long way away from me – for a little while, at least.”
Two days later, Richards was feted at West Hollywood’s Whiskey A Go Go by members of the Bangles, U2‘s Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton, Tom Waits and Guns n’ Roses‘ Izzy Stradlin.
Prior to the LP parties, Richards caught Mats Wilander at the U.S. Open.
