Cat Power Postpones European Tour
Cat Power announced in a long letter on Instagram that she would have to postpone her upcoming European tour due to financial and health issues, particularly her struggle with the skin condition angioedema. The announcement comes after the singer-songwriter hinted last week she might have to cancel the tour.
“The American tour has been wonderful and amazing, and with me being unable to AFFORD to bring my show with full production, (which I helped create) to Europe, financially, really dumped a huge additional amount of stress on me as I was and still am fighting trying to get tour support,” wrote Cat Power, real name Chan Marhsall, who released her latest record Sun in September. “I have to postpone my European tour until early next year, so I can return home and re-engage myself back into my health regimen.”
Marshall said she fell ill two days after the release of Sun, and said she has been to the hospital eight times since. Along with her health issues, Marshall faces financial constraints as well: she wrote last week that she is bankrupt.
The singer also expressed her love for her fans, and said that while she always tries to think of them first when it comes to her career, this time, “I have to think of MYSELF right now because I have to now LEARN to heal myself. Through that, I can learn to help others to heal themselves.”
After another expression of gratitude for her audience, Marshall closed with a political message” “#VOTE #OBAMA #FIGHT #THE #POWERS #THAT #BE.”
Cat Power ends her North American tour on November 8th at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
