Die Mommie Die
Picture Far From Heaven done as a farce with a drag queen in the Julianne Moore role. Or don't picture it — Die is still hotly hilarious. Charles Busch, the Broadway playwright (Taboo) and diva, brings high style and dazzling diction to the role of Angela Arden, a washed-up singer whose neurotic daughter, Edith (Natasha Lyonne), is miffed that Angela has killed her rich husband (Philip Baker Hall), who is Edith's daddy. Studly son Lance (Stark Sands) is more forgiving, until mommie gets in bed with tennis pro Tony (Jason Priestley, showing comic gifts here that 90210 never investigated). It seems Tony has been screwing Lance as well. Ah, family. Director Mark Rucker can't disguise the film's origins as a theater piece. But Busch, as screenwriter and star, is a true goddess.
