Peter Travers: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis Shine in Entertaining ‘Looper’
Peter Travers has plenty of praise for the new Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis sci-fi flick, Looper, directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom). Gordon-Levitt plays Joe, a “looper” – i.e. an assassin – in the year 2042, who’s hired to kill targets from the year 2072 (when time travel’s been invented) sent back by the mob to meet their end. Things get twisted, however, when Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) shows up to try and stop a man known as The Rainmaker who murdered the woman future Joe loves.
“This is a really smart movie, it’s entertaining,” raves Travers. “I was so involved in what was happening in Looper and so involved with the humanist message of it at the end. This is the kind of movie that will last.”
