Incubus Replace Bassist
Bassist Dirk Lance, a co-founding member of Incubus, has parted ways with the platinum hard rock band. Ben Kenney, who has played guitar and bass for the Roots and Blackalicious — in addition to sitting in with Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger’s side project, the Time-Lapse Consortium — has been tapped as his replacement.
“We, as a band, would love to express our gratitude towards Dirk for an amazing twelve years of artistry and dedication,” frontman Brandon Boyd said. “He was and will remain a valuable asset to the history of this band. I am aware that the looming ambiguity of this statement might raise more questions than before, but please know that we wish him the best of fortune in every endeavor he pursues. And we will and are continuing our pursuit of high art in sound.”
Incubus and Lance originally agreed to make a break after finishing tour promotion behind the band’s last studio album, 2001’s Morning View. The band has been writing material for its next record, though no release plans have been set. “I must issue you a warning,” Boyd said to fans in a Web post, “for the music we are currently composing for the next record will be like melted chocolate on your chests and necks!”
Next up for Incubus is a summer slot on the Lollapalooza tour with Jane’s Addiction, Queens of the Stone Age and the Jurassic 5, starting July 3rd in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
