LCD Soundsystem Offer Peek at New Album With Studio Footage
LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy has posted a video documenting his work on the band’s third album on their official Website. The two-and-a-half minute video follows Murphy recording in Los Angeles, where the LCD Soundsystem team converted a dreary mansion straight out of Sunset Boulevard into a studio filled with an army of keyboards. “I always have to live where I’m recording, to make an LCD record I have to live there, because otherwise I get distracted by stuff,” Murphy says, adding that he envisioned working in a mansion with a swimming pool.
As Rolling Stone previously reported, Murphy promised that the still-untitled third LP from LCD will be “definitely better than the other two” and boast a “wider palette of sound.” (LCD’s Sound of Silver wasn’t too shabby, though: it placed at Number 12 on Rolling Stone‘s Top 100 Albums of the 2000s list.) Murphy and Co. will hopefully preview some of the new tracks when LCD Soundsystem performs at this year’s Coachella festival. After that, the group will embark on a full tour of Europe.
“Before you get mad and ask why there’s no gig in your town or house, please realize (realise, for you U.K. people) that we’re going on tour for a long time, in a lot of places, around the planet, for longer in support of this one record than the Beatles ever toured in total, and we’ll likely be close to you at some point,” Murphy writes on the LCD site. No release details have yet to be announced for the third album, but reports anticipate an April 2010 release.
