Courtney Sued Again
Courtney Love’s legal woes continued Thursday morning, when she was served with a new lawsuit — for alleged unpaid travel expenses — as she left a Beverly Hills courtroom.
The troubled singer was in court on charges of felony drug possession, stemming from an October 2003 arrest. During today’s proceedings, she added lawyer Howard Weitzman as co-counsel on her case and postponed her trial date to November 3rd. As Love exited the courthouse, Attorney Stephen Martin served her with a lawsuit from New Act Travel, claiming that Love had stiffed the agency for $50,000.
“I tried serving her this morning, [but] she jumped in the elevator and said, ‘Not another one!'” Martin says. “She owes $50,000 in airline tickets she charged for herself, her boyfriend, her daughter and her nanny. She withdrew her credit card authorization and later wrote a check on a closed account. [Later] she gave us another check with insufficient funds.”
Love is facing a number of legal troubles. Last month — in addition to the felony charges in Beverly Hills, an assault charge in New York from a concert last February, and an assault charge in Los Angeles — she was hit with a lien against her downtown Manhattan residence by the building’s Board of Managers over unpaid dues totaling about $5,000. The singer will return to court next month to face the Los Angeles assault charge, filed in April after she allegedly struck a woman with a bottle and flashlight at the home of ex-boyfriend James Barber.
