Kylie Minogue Recovering
Kylie Minogue underwent surgery for breast cancer on Friday at a Melbourne, Australia, hospital, and her surgeon has deemed the operation successful. Diagnosed last Tuesday, Minogue’s illness — fortunately discovered in the early stages — has forced her to cancel the Australian and Asian legs of her Showgirl Tour, as well as her headlining stint at the U.K.’s Glastonbury festival.
The thirty-six-year-old pop star was at home in Melbourne with her family preparing to tour when she received the diagnosis. “I was so looking forward to bringing the Showgirl Tour to Australian audiences, and am sorry to have to disappoint my fans,” she said in a statement. “Hopefully all will work out fine and I’ll be back with you all again soon.”
Rocker Melissa Etheridge is currently recovering from a public battle with breast cancer, and pop singer Anastacia has been fighting the disease since 2003. Years before being diagnosed herself, Minogue worked to raise awareness of prostate cancer, which her father has been treated for.
Minogue and boyfriend, French actor Olivier Martinez (2002’s Unfaithful), were planning on starting a family after her tour. “Now it will be put off,” Martinez told New Idea magazine. “Not forever — we pray and hope — but for the time being.”
