Ashlee Caught Lip Syncing
Ashlee Simpson walked offstage this Saturday during a broadcast of
Saturday Night Live when recorded vocals for a different
song began to play as she began performing.
After Simpson and her band were introduced by guest host Jude
Law, a recording of her hit song “Pieces of Me” — a track Simpson
had performed earlier in the evening — began to play just as she
appeared to be launching into another song. Within thirty seconds,
Simpson had walked off, leaving NBC to cut immediately to a
commercial. Simpson had intended to perform the title track of her
debut album, Autobiography.
At the close of the show, Law stood beside Simpson and said,
“What can I say? Live TV.” And the singer, trying to explain the
misstep, sweetly said, “My band started playing the wrong
song.”
Simpson, 20, came out from under the shadow of her older sister,
pop singer and star of the reality show Newlyweds Jessica,
when Autobiography debuted at Number One this summer. With
a regular role as “Cecilia” on the WB hit Seventh Heaven
and the instant success of her MTV reality series, The Ashlee
Simpson Show, Simpson also proved herself to be a draw on the
small screen. Autobiography has sold over a million
copies.
