Hilary Duff Tops Chart
Teen queen Hilary Duff’s latest release, the best-of compilation Most Wanted, took the Number One spot this week, selling 208,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD combines remixes of Duff’s previous hits alongside three new tracks, including the single “Wake Up,” written by Good Charlotte’s Benji and Joel Madden. This is a higher debut than her self-titled sophomore album, which, although it moved 192,000 copies in its first week last September, peaked at Number Two.
In second place is young country singer-songwriter Brad Paisley, whose fourth effort, Time Well Wasted, moved 193,000 CDs to debut at Number Two. And in third (109,000) and fourth (108,000), respectively, are chart regulars Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi and the nineteenth installment of blockbuster hits compilation Now That’s What I Call Music!, featuring chart-toppers by artists from Gwen Stefani to Eminem. Rounding out the Top Five is this week’s other big debut, from Omaha alt-rockers 311, whose ninth release, Don’t Tread on Me, came in at Number Five (91,000).
Los Angeles hip-hop act Black Eyed Peas’ steady seller, Monkey Business, dropped one spot to Number Six (82,000); while last week’s Number One, alt-metal band Staind’s fifth album, Chapter V, fell six places to Seven (76,000). Fireflies, the seventh studio effort and third consecutive chart-topper from country crossover star Faith Hill, also lost its steam, falling five places to Number Eight (73,000) in its third week out. Holding steady at Number Nine (62,000) is American Idol Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway, while Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy’s major-label debut, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, dropped four spots to Number Ten (61,000).
Meanwhile, Coldplay’s blockbuster X&Y has finally dropped out of the Top Ten in its tenth week out: the album fell five spots to Number Twelve (59,000).
With no major releases this week, expect a rearrangement of the usual players, with Carey and the Peas sticking firmly to the Top Ten.
