Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock: Aerosmith Announce Tour
Aerosmith‘s summer ’09 tour was one of the most ill-fated in the band’s colorful career: Brad Whitford missed dates due to a head injury, Steven Tyler severely pulled a leg muscle, Tom Hamilton underwent surgery, and Tyler broke his shoulder falling off the stage in South Dakota, which led to talk of the band soldiering on without him and a few of the most tense weeks in the band’s history. But the mended Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are taking their explosive show back on the road again this summer: Tyler and Co. have announced they’ll return to North America with their Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock tour starting July 23rd with a concert in Oakland, California.
“I thought it was time to get my mojo back, by rockin’ South America and Europe with a little home run at Boston’s Fenway Park thrown in and then off to the rest of America to do what we do best! We’re gonna rock you into the middle of next week,” Tyler promised in a statement. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Aerosmith’s summer schedule includes a sold-out homecoming show on August 14th at Fenway with J. Geils Band. Tickets for the Cocked, Locked U.S. leg begin going on sale this Friday, June 4th. Sammy Hagar and the Wabos will open the majority of the dates.
Aerosmith officially called off their last summer tour on August 14th, 2009, after Tyler spun offstage and into the hospital doing “the Tyler shuffle,” as he later explained. He then told a journalist he wanted time away from the band he’s fronted for four decades to focus on “Brand Tyler,” and his bandmates didn’t blink, promising to search for a new singer. After vowing to Rolling Stone that drugs and alcohol hadn’t been a factor in his accident (“Do I sound fucked up or stoned?” he asked) Tyler checked into a California rehab center and reiterated his commitment to Aerosmith. “I just auditioned and I got the gig,” Tyler joked alongside his bandmates in a video posted online in February. “Look out baby, ’cause here we go again!” The band reunited to tour South America, and will head to Europe before their U.S. tour this summer.
