High Heels
Becky (Marisa Paredes) is an egomaniacal performer returning to Madrid for a concert. Rebecca (Victoria Abril) is her neglected TV-newscaster daughter, married to Mom’s old flame Manuel (Feodor Atkine). When Rebecca confesses to Manuel’s murder on the news, her case is handled by the lustful Judge Dominguez (Miguel Bosé), who leads a double life as a transvestite nightclub entertainer.
Welcome to the wild world of writer-director Pedro Almodóvar. High Heels is fun with an erotic kick, especially when the judge has sex with Rebecca while he’s still half in drag. But in trying to mix pathos with laughs, Almodóvar forgets that his films go down better spiked with something tart instead of sweet.
