Shady Will Be Back Soon: Eminem Working on New Album
Eminem is (finally) working on a new album. The Detroit rapper called New York’s Hot 97 radio station yesterday while 50 Cent was being interviewed and revealed that he does have a new project in the works. “I’m always working — I’m always in the studio,” he said. “It feels good right now, the energy of the label. For a while, I didn’t want to go back to the studio … I went through some personal things” Em recently divorced Kim Mathers for the second time — “I’m coming out of those personal things [and] it feels good.” When asked about a release date for the untitled project, the MC joked that the album would come out “tomorrow.”
Eminem recently produced and rhymed on “Peep Show” from 50 Cent’s new album Curtis, but his last solo studio set came out three years ago (2004’s Encore). In 2006, he released a retrospective called Curtain Call that seemed to hint at early retirement, and he’s been keeping an extremely low profile since the April 2006 death of his close friend, D12’s Proof, who was killed during a shoot-out at a Detroit club. Back in May, Eminem’s buddy and collaborator 50 Cent told the world that although Eminem would never admit he’s working on new material, he definitely is. “I’ve heard a few songs, and it’s hot,” the rapper said at the time. Moral of the story: Fifty is right about fifty percent of the time (according to the latest reports, his album is still trailing Kanye West’s in first-week sales).
