Jimmy Fallon Won’t Host Oscars in 2013
Though Jimmy Fallon was offered the opportunity to host the 2013 Academy Awards, the comedian passed on the gig, he revealed on the Today show. “It’s an honor to be asked by the Academy, but it’s not my year,” he told host Matt Lauer. Billy Crystal has expressed interest in returning for a 10th appearance as host, telling USA Today, “The door is open. It’s up to them. I had a very good time this last time.”
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which heads the event, did not respond to requests for comment. Last week, reports surfaced that the Academy was in discussions with Fallon for the gig, despite the uneasiness of ABC at the possibility of having the NBC late-night host anchor their broadcast.
The 85th Academy Awards take place February 24th, 2013.
