‘Guitar Hero’ Cranks Volume on Fall’s ‘Warriors of Rock’
Kiss’ Gene Simmons will step up to narrate the story that winds between the ear-shattering anthems in the next Guitar Hero adventure Warriors of Rock. The game, due in September, will focus largely on heavy metal riffs, rapid-fire drums and impossible guitar solos. In addition to coming with a sleek new customizable “axe wings” guitar (check it out at Game Rant), Warriors of Rock will boast a story-driven Quest Mode accompanied by Simmons’ deep baritone. “Come with me, and enter a world populated of Demi-Gods and Beasts. Transform from an everyday person and become the savior of rock & roll,” Simmons, who provides the voice of the character Demi-God, said in a statement. The Quest Mode will take gamers from the legendary CBGB to the “molten lava fields of rock treachery.”

Metal gods Black Sabbath, Slayer and Metallica with Ozzy Osbourne (their epic team-up on “Paranoid” from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary concerts at Madison Square Garden) are joined on the on-disc track list by the Rolling Stones, Buzzcocks, Queen, Foreigner, ZZ Top and the Cure (and, of course, Kiss). Warriors of Rock will also feature tracks from the newer generation of heavy metal acts like Children of Bodom, Dragonforce and Avenged Sevenfold, and rock radio staples from Muse, Foo Fighters and Silversun Pickups.
As Rolling Stone previously reported, Warriors of Rock will include a brand new Megadeth song called “Sudden Death,” which Dave Mustaine wrote just for Guitar Hero using the game’s Quest Mode as inspiration. “I’m sure some fans will think it’s the greatest thing we’ve ever done. But other people will say it sucks. That’s just the way of the world,” Mustaine told RS of the ultra-difficult thrasher that gamers will have to master in order to conquer Warriors of Rock. “Just the sheer repetitiveness of it can blow people’s minds.”
