Watch Bruce Springsteen Play ‘Mustang Sally’ With a Jersey Bar Band
Thursday night Bruce Springsteen stunned fans at Woody’s Roadside Tavern in Farmingdale, N.J. when he joined local band Timepiece (which includes his brother in-law Mike Scialfa) for a cover of Wilson Pickett‘s “Mustang Sally.” In front of an overjoyed small group of fans holding cell-phone cameras, Springsteen traded vocals and guitar licks with the band — playing a borrowed Strat as opposed to his standard Telecaster.

The gig comes at a busy time for Springsteen. Last week he performed three songs at the annual Stand Up For Heroes Benefit in New York, followed by two shows in Pittsburgh with longtime friend and collaborator Joe Grushecky. He’s also in the midst of a media blitz for the new Darkness On The Edge of Town box set. On Tuesday he’s going to perform on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon — possibly with The Roots. The day before that he’s going to answer fan questions on Sirius XM’s E Street Radio. Despite all the activity, there’s still no word on when he’s going to cut a new album of launch another tour.
