Beanie Sigel Arrested at Traffic Stop
Though he’s already dealing with an impending two-year prison sentence, Beanie Sigel was arrested at a traffic stop today in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia’s CBS 6 reports. The rapper, who was not driving the car, was pulled over around 3:15 a.m. on Interstate 95 after police spotted a tan Ford Fusion swerving lanes and tailing another vehicle too closely. Police performed a routine check for weapons on the driver and found a small quantity of marijuana and several prescription pill bottles. Police then searched Sigel (real name Dwight E. Grant) and found about $4,650 in cash, a bottle of codeine syrup and prescription pills stashed in plastic bags inside a cigarette box. After detaining the pair, police found a firearm in the center console; both men are convicted felons and prohibited from possessing a firearm. Bail for the rapper was set at $300,000 cash.
Sigel’s record label, Ruffhouse Records, is sticking by him. “Obviously, we’re very disappointed,” said Ruffhouse CEO Chris Schwartz in a statement. “However, Beanie has done nothing but display the utmost professionalism in all the initiatives related to the promotion of his new release. Beanie obviously has been struggling with some personal issues, and we continue to support him now and throughout his impending incarceration.”
Sigel was scheduled to report to prison on September 12th after being found guilty of tax evasion. His latest album, This Time, was released yesterday.
