Report: Rihanna Named As Victim in Chris Brown Battery Case
Rihanna has reportedly been named as the victim in the Chris Brown felony battery investigation, a source close to the situation tells UsMagazine.com. According to reports, Robyn Fenty was listed in the police report as the complainant; the pop star’s full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. In addition, according to TMZ, Brown could face charges of assault with a deadly weapon. No weapons were recovered from the rented Lamborghini Brown was driving at the time of the incident (the car has since been impounded), however the 19-year-old R&B singer is a trained martial artist.
As Rock Daily reported last night, both Chris Brown and Rihanna dropped out of their Grammy performances Sunday afternoon under dubious circumstances (see photos of the pair’s Grammy weekend in a special gallery). Shortly thereafter, news broke that a 911 call had brought police to Los Angeles’ Hancock Park neighborhood Sunday morning at approximately 12:30 a.m., where they found Brown and an assault victim suffering from visible injuries; the victim, now known to be Rihanna, identified Brown as her attacker. Brown turned himself in to cops at L.A.’s Wilshire station with his attorney, Mark Geragos (the lawyer famous for representing Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder and Scott Peterson). The singer was charged with making criminal threats, posted $50,000 bail and was released an hour later. He is due back in court March 5th.
The Los Angeles Times reported that in a 2007 interview with Giant, Brown revealed his family’s history of domestic abuse. His stepfather “used to hit my mom. He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself,” he told the magazine. “I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day … ‘ I hate him to this day.”
Wrigley has announced that the company will suspend advertisements featuring Brown and his song “Forever” in ads for Doublemint gum. Ironically, the commercials ran on CBS during last night’s Grammy telecast, where Brown was scheduled to perform. In 2008, Rolling Stone named Brown “Best New Michael Jackson” in our Best of Rock issue. When we last interviewed him, Brown told Rock Daily he was working on three films and shared stories about performing with Jackson.
