Christina Aguilera Delays 20 Date Summer Tour for New LP ‘Bionic’
Just two weeks after announcing her Bionic summer tour, Christina Aguilera has postponed the entire trek until 2011. The singer says she needs to focus on promoting her new album and is tied-down with commitments to the film Burlesque, in which Aguilera has a starring role. “[Aguilera] felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour date, this wasn’t possible,” said Live Nation, who was promoting the tour, in a statement. The rescheduled dates will be announced later this year.
Aguilera filled Rolling Stone in on the details of her tour before it was postponed. “Rather than venturing back in time to explore a more retro feeling world with Back to Basics, Bionic will take you on a ride into the future,” she told RS. “I want people to feel they’ve landed on another planet and explore the possibility of no boundaries, no rules.” Aguilera was prepping a massive stage show to match her ambitions: the production was set to include new tour videos, high-tech visuals and tightly-choreographed dancing inspired by her role in Burlesque. “I will be reinventing old material to fit the bill and evolution of Bionic,” she said. “I like everything to flow cohesively and take people on a journey and tell a story throughout the show. Using elements and pieces from my past, I’m now coming full circle in incorporating my growth as an artist over the years.”
Aguilera’s 20-date concert was scheduled to begin July 15th in Uncasville, Connecticut and wrap up a month later in Phoenix, Arizona on August 19th.
