Built to Spill Plan Tour, CD
Indie veterans Built to Spill kick off a six-week fall tour
September 15th in Minneapolis. After a decade together, the Boise,
Idaho-based trio have found ways to make the grueling repetition of
the road bearable — they have multiple nights scheduled for New
York, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Boston.
“You get to hang around and do what you want all day long,” says
Martsch of the extended stays. “I look forward to those stops. I
know my way around, I know where the YMCA’s are. I try to find Y’s
and places to shoot hoops.”
Since Built to Spill released Ancient Melodies of the
Future more than two years ago, Martsch has put out Now
You Know, a solo album heavily influenced by the blues. A
similar sound is bleeding into the formative stages of a new Built
To Spill record.
“I’ve been going back through those tapes and picking out things
I thought were interesting,” Martsch says. “There’s a few pieces
where I was playing around with open tunings and slide stuff I want
to use. But it’s still pretty early.”
