Christina Aguilera Has eyes for Fred Durst
Check out the arm of Christina Aguilera when she arrives at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 23. On it just may be fellow nominee Fred Durst. Limp Bizkit’s singer is one of the teen idol’s current crushes, and apparently a requited one.
“He wanted me to be his date for the MTV Video Music Awards,” says Aguilera, who is nominated for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
But it was Aguilera’s record company, not the nineteen-year-old singer, who nixed the idea. “They were like, ‘No! No!'” Aguilera says. “But in the future, I’ll probably do something like that.”
Aguilera has said she wants to date a popular musician, someone who can appreciate her hectic itinerary. But she isn’t into the J.C.’s and A.J.’s of her musical category. She digs the bad boys of hard rock and rap.
“To tell you the truth, pop music is what I listen to the least, because my mind’s always wandering off to different places,” she says. “I never wanted to be a straight pop artist myself.”
Cupid’s arrow nearly bagged her Eminem once. Having been informed of Aguilera’s hormonal inclination, the rapper accepted an award from her at MTV’s European video awards, telling the crowd he’d rather take the presenter home than the award.
“I couldn’t hear him from the way the sound was onstage, so I didn’t even know about it until after I got off stage,” Aguilera says. “On the way down, he was like, ‘So, baby, we gotta talk.’ But we never really had our moment, because the next thing you know, I’m headed off to the press room and he’s being pulled in another direction.”
Aguilera says her crushes — which have also been aimed at Robbie Williams and Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath — have so far remained in the realm of fantasy, because she has no time to spend getting to know potential suitors.
“My career is my boyfriend right now,” she says. “It’s really sad. You meet these people and you want to get to know them better and spend time, but you just can’t. You’re barely off the stage long enough to hit the next plane and the next venue.”
