Hilary Duff Stays on Top
In another slow sales week, Hilary Duff’s best-of release, Most Wanted, stayed at Number One this week, selling 101,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD features remixes of the teen queen’s hits, as well as three new songs, including the single “Wake Up,” written by Good Charlotte’s Benji and Joel Madden. And it comes as no surprise that at Number Two (96,000) and Three (89,000), respectively, are chart regulars Now That’s What I Call Music! 19, the latest installment of the massive hits compilation (this time around featuring artists from Gwen Stefani to Eminem), up two spots, and diva Mariah Carey’s The Emancipation of Mimi, which stood its ground.
At Number Four, down two places, is Black Eyed Peas’ steady seller Monkey Business, which moved another 85,000 copies. And rounding out the Top Five is the week’s highest debut, from Jim Jones, whose second solo effort, Harlem: The Diary of a Summer, moved 74,000 units. This is a big leap for Cam’ron’s sideman, whose debut album, last year’s On My Way to Church, hardly made a blip on the album chart.
Young country singer-songwriter Brad Paisley’s fourth album, Time Well Wasted, dropped four spots in its second week to Number Six (70,000), while Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy’s major-label debut, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, climbed three places in its fourth week to Number Seven (61,000).
Meanwhile, Damon Albarn’s hip-hop/dub concept band Gorillaz broke back into the Top Ten, climbing six places to Number Eight (52,000). And Green Day’s instant rock classic, American Idiot, also moved up, three spots, to Number Ten (51,000) — nearly one year since it originally hit stores.
The losers this week were alt-rockers 311. Their ninth release, Don’t Tread on Me, was last week’s surprise hit, debuting at Number Five — but the boys’ resurgence did not last: the CD plummeted twenty-five places to Number Thirty (26,000).
Next week, forget about everybody else: Kanye West’s sophomore album, Late Registration, will eat the chart for breakfast.
