Julie Taymor May Leave ‘Spider-Man’ Musical
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark director Julie Taymor is negotiating with the show’s producers about either working with an expanded creative team or departing the production altogether, according to the New York Times.
Taymor and her musical collaborators Bono and the Edge have been in talks about extensively reworking the show’s story and music with outside consultants. The show has already hired longtime U2 collaborator Steve Lillywhite to work on its music, and comic book writer and playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has come on to revise its script. Rumors are spreading through the Broadway community about who may be hired to join the troubled musical or possibly replace Taymor as its director.

This creative course-correction could push off Spider-Man‘s official opening indefinitely. On Sunday, the show set a Broadway record for the greatest number of preview performances, and no end to its preview run at the Foxwoods Theater is in sight.
