Coachella Lineup Announced, East Coast Fest Confirmed: Jack Johnson, Portishead and Roger Waters to Headline April Desert Festival
After months of speculation and a fistful of fake fliers, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival finally revealed its lineup late yesterday at a press conference in Mexico City. Friday, April 25th’s headliner is Jack Johnson, with the Verve, the Breeders and the Raconteurs getting second billing. My Bloody Valentine will not be performing (contrary to lots of blog buzz several months ago), but to make amends, on Saturday night, U.K. trip-hoppers Portishead play their first U.S. show since the Clinton era, along with Kraftwerk, M.I.A., Death Cab for Cutie and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.
In the days leading up to the announcement, Coachella‘s bookers promised a big veteran act, leading many to anticipate the long-awaited live return of David Bowie. Instead, Sunday night belongs to Roger Waters, who will perform Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety without the rest of Pink Floyd. Also performing the final night are Bonnaroo favorites My Morning Jacket, Love & Rockets, Justice and Spiritualized. To see the complete Coachella lineup, check below.
In related news, the festival’s promoters also announced that the “Coachella East” festival taking place August 8th, 9th and 10th at New Jersey’s Liberty State Park will actually be called “The All Points West Music & Arts Festival,” the name deriving from an old train station that used to inhabit the site. While no headliners were confirmed for that concert, speculation has Radiohead and Jack Johnson as the frontrunners.
