Aerosmith Postpone Canadian Tour Due to Steven Tyler’s Stage Fall
Aerosmith officially postponed their tour of Western Canada due to injuries frontman Steven Tyler suffered after falling off the stage during a concert in South Dakota last week. As Rock Daily reported, Tyler broke his shoulder and received stitches to the head after crashing to the ground while dancing during “Love in an Elevator.” The band’s concert in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was immediately postponed, and according to a statement issued by Ticketmaster.ca, the remainder of the band’s dates in Canada will also have to wait while Tyler recovers.
“The postponed concert dates are a result of injuries Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler sustained when he fell from the stage during a show at Buffalo Chip Campground in Sturgis, SD, Wednesday, August 5,” the Ticketmaster.ca Website posted on their Aerosmith listings page. “A rescheduled tour announcement is forthcoming for Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.” The band’s next scheduled show is at Seattle’s White River Amphitheatre on August 17th, and while the band has issued no official statement about when the tour might resume, guitarist Joe Perry seems to think Aerosmith might be docked for awhile.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, when the tour’s going to pick up, I’ve heard anywhere from four weeks to two months,” Perry told Illinois’ WXRX. “I don’t know what we’re going to do with the tour.” According to the Regina Leader-Post, the band is expected to announce the new Canadian dates at some point this week, however Aerosmith still have seven other make-up dates to reschedule after Tyler was unable to perform due to an injury to his leg muscle last month. Bassist Tom Hamilton was also forced to miss time due to “non-invasive” surgery,” while guitarist Brad Whitford missed the beginning of the trek after undergoing surgery due to an injury sustained while bumping his head while exiting his Ferrari. Still, despite all the medical problems that have plagued this tour, Perry said, “We always come back.”
In a strange twist, obviously false rumors of Tyler’s death in connection with his stage fall began to circulate on the Internet late last week, prompting Tyler’s daughter Mia to issue an even stranger statement: “The demon of screamin’ is not dead. Yes, it’s true my dad walked the wrong way and landed on his head. He broke his left shoulder and had to get a few stitches on his noggin’,” Mia Tyler said in a statement. “He is now at home resting and will be back on his feet just as soon as he can to rock the world once more.”
