Hear It Now: Best Coast’s ‘Crazy for You’
Best Coast mastermind Bethany Consentino has crafted a perfect summer record in Crazy for You: breezy, lo-fi, garage-pop numbers about sunshine, searching for boys and spending lazy days sitting on the couch. Though the album is packed with girl-group tunefulness, Consentino is more than just a Sixties pop revisionist — there’s a sly sarcasm woven through songs like “Sun Don’t Shine,” which likely comes from her failed attempt at becoming a writer in New York City. (She’s since relocated to California.)
“I used to watch a lot of Sex and the City, and I had this fantasy of moving to New York to be a writer,” Cosentino told Rolling Stone . But once reality sunk in, Consentino split for the West Coast to focus on music. “I was like, ‘Fuck that — I’m out of here,’ ” she said. “I called my mom and she got on the next flight and helped me pack up my shit.” Read our review of Crazy for You and hear the full album now:
