Sigur Ros to Release Second Concert Film
Live releases often serve as a souvenir from a band’s tour – little trinkets that fans can take home with them to remember their big night out. But for Sigur Rós the live format allows for something a little more cinematic. In that spirit, the band has unveiled plans to release their second concert film, Inni, November 15th on both DVD and Blu Ray. Bundled and packaged in multiple configurations, Inni also serves as the band’s first full-length live audio release, available as a double CD, digital download or triple vinyl set.
Whereas Sigur Rós’ previous film, Heima, played more like a documentary that gave context to their sounds and songs, Inni takes a different approach and immerses the viewer directly in the band’s own concert experience. Directed by indie favorite Vincent Morisset (Arcade Fire’s Miroir Noir), and filmed over two nights in London circa 2008, Inni provides a portal into the musicians’ vantage point onstage while making their catalog come alive. Despite additional film manipulations by Godspeed You Black Emperor visual collaborator Karl Lemieux, the black-and-white film gives fans a chance to experience the live show in a way that’s more up close and personal than even a front row fan club seat.
As for those who actually caught the band’s 2008 tour and were hoping for more of a keepsake, the accompanying live album component of Inni is comprised of almost the entire set from London’s Alexandra Palace. Check out a preview track, “Festival,” which is available as a free download from the official Sigur Ros website.
