B.o.B Breaks Rihanna’s Hot 100 Streak
For five straight weeks, B.o.B’s “Nothin’ On You” waited patiently at Number Two on the Billboard Hot 100 as Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” enjoyed a run in the top spot — the singer’s longest since her megahit “Umbrella.” But finally, in its 12th week on the chart, “Nothin’ On You” has nabbed Number One, giving B.o.B the first Number One single of his young career. There was more good news for the rapper Rolling Stone called “the Best Stoner MC” in our recent Best New Bands of 2010 feature: B.o.B’s “Airplanes Pt. 2,” featuring Eminem and Paramore’s Hayley Williams, was the week’s highest-charting debut single, entering the Hot 100 at Number 12 thanks to 138,000 downloads.
Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” fell just one spot to Number Two. Christina Aguilera had the week’s second-biggest arrival with her dance-pop track “Not Myself Tonight,” which settled in at Number 23. The return of Glee helped thrust four tracks from our favorite new cult series onto the charts, led by Lea Michele and cast’s rendition of the All-American Rejects’ kiss-off “Gives You Hell.”
The majority of the Hot 100 Top 10 remained largely the same with the exception of two additional TV-fueled gainers: Hot off her day-glo performance on Saturday Night Live, Ke$ha’s “Your Love Is My Drug” jumped from 19 to Number Nine. And Adam Lambert’s mentorship on American Idol helped “Whataya From Me” rise from 23 to Number 10 in its 18th week on the Hot 100.
