Radiohead Announce Haiti Benefit Show in Los Angeles
Last night on their Dead Air Space Website, Radiohead announced the band will play their own Haiti benefit concert this Sunday, January 24th at Los Angeles’ Music Box theater. “All proceeds are going to the Oxfam Haiti relief fund. We’re trying to raise as much money as possible, so tickets will be sold by auction at this site from 8pm tonight until 11am Saturday (PST),” drummer Phil Selway wrote. “We’re in the middle of recording at the moment, so you’ll be catching us on the fly…. but if you’re up for it, then we are too.”

The minimum bid for tickets started at $100, but the demand has already bumped that up to $250, according to the Ticketmaster auction page. As Rolling Stone reported yesterday, Radiohead is currently recording at a Los Angeles studio for what will likely be their follow-up to 2007’s In Rainbows, so Sunday night’s show might feature a preview of what the band has been working on. Regardless, at this stage in Radiohead’s career, this is a rare opportunity to see the band in a venue this small and intimate, so get bidding if you live in Los Angeles. This will also likely be the only opportunity to see anything Radiohead-related live until Thom Yorke’s set with his “????” band on the closing night of Coachella.
Radiohead is one of dozens of artists at work this weekend to raise money for Haiti. As Rolling Stone previously reported, tonight’s “Hope for Haiti” concert will feature performances by Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Taylor Swift and Stevie Wonder, to name a few. Plus, Jay-Z and U2’s Bono and the Edge will premiere their new Haiti-inspired song “Stranded” with a special performance. Rolling Stone will be live blogging the big event, so check back tonight at 8 p.m. sharp.
