Sixties Folkie to ‘Office’ Weirdo: Creed Bratton’s Secret History
Even diehard fans of The Office are often shocked to learn about Creed Bratton’s rock & roll past as the guitarist in the 1960s folk-rock band the Grass Roots. The group scored big hits with “Midnight Confessions” and “Let’s Live For Today” and played shows alongside Buffalo Springfield and Janis Joplin, but when Bratton quit in 1969 his career stopped dead in its tracks.
After 30 years of scraping by as a part-time actor, waiter, on-set caterer and a stand-in for Beau Bridges, Bratton landed the role of a lifetime as the resident weirdo on The Office — a character who also happens to be named Creed Bratton. He recently stopped by the Rolling Stone offices to play us a song from his new solo album Bounce Back and chat about his incredible comeback.
