Mariah, Wyclef Join Telethon
Mariah Carey, Wyclef John and Willie Nelson are the newest names on a long list of entertainers who will donate their services to “America: A Tribute to Heroes.” All proceeds from the prime-time event, which will feature music and celebrity reflections, will benefit those most affected by last week’s terrorist attacks. The specific charity will be named on stage Friday night.
For Carey, who sought psychiatric help after a breakdown this summer, Friday’s benefit will be the first public appearance in months. The show also happens to coincide with the premiere of Glitter, the singer’s first feature film. The Glitter soundtrack, featuring Carey’s single “Never Too Far,” debuted this week at Number Seven on the pop charts.
Musicians already slated for the benefit include Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Paul Simon, Sheryl Crow, Bon Jovi and Neil Young. Actors include Julia Roberts Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz and Tom Hanks.
The two-hour, commercial-free program will air on all four major networks simultaneously, as well as on many smaller networks. Live coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, with tape-delayed broadcasts in the Mountain and Pacific time zones.
