Earlier this summer, the mariachi alter ego of the Los Angeles-based punk band El Bronx released their second album as Mariachi El Bronx. The result is an album that fuses the band’s trademark punk sound with traditional mariachi music, including twinkling horns and high-pitched guitars. The band’s first track off the album, the up-tempo, polyamorous love song “48 Roses,” ably demonstrates Mariachi El Bronx’s commitment to making music that can resonate with anyone. “When writing this song, we wanted to make sure the lyrical content was something that speaks to the listener on a personal level so they can identify with it,” drummer Jorma Vik tells Rolling Stone. “’48 Roses’ is about having ‘four different lovers.’ Who can’t relate to that?” Mariachi El Bronx’s album Mariachi El Bronx (II) is currently in stores, but you can download “48 Roses” for free here.
