Madonna, Daughter Lourdes Team for Fashion Line
Over the course of her 20-year career, Madonna has worked with many of the world’s top designers, and now the fashion icon is collaborating with her own 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes, on a new clothing line called Material Girl. The label will be geared toward teenage girls and draw inspiration from Lourdes’ own sense of style. Material Girl, which will be available exclusively at Macy’s, will officially launch August 3rd. As part of the collection’s kickoff, Macy’s is hosting a contest where fans can win a chance to meet Madonna herself.

“I have a lot of friends who are clothes designers, whether its Gaultier or Dolce and Gabbana, and she’s been around all of the shoots that I’ve done, every time I’ve done a tour, she’s always hanging out backstage,” Madonna told the AP about Lourdes’ resume when news first broke about their collaboration. “The last few tours I’ve done, she’s been working in the wardrobe department, and on this last tour she dressed all the dancers,” Madonna said, adding that Lourdes’ sense of fashion has made Madonna herself realize she’s “boring” in comparison. “She reminds me a lot of me when I was younger, because she just goes for it and she tries different things and it doesn’t look like she thought too much about it, and that’s how I used to be.”
Lourdes, or “Lola” as she calls herself, has also started a blog on the Material Girl site. Her introductory post provides some background on her fashion influences (“I am totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts”), but she also reveals her musical passions: “Music wise My Chemical Romance is THE BEST BAND EVER for realzzzz. They are so awesome it hurts.”
