Gorillaz to Release Free iPad Recording Christmas Day
The Gorillaz‘s Advent calendar — which reveals a gift for fans each day on the band’s website — will conclude Christmas Day, when the album that bandleader Damon Albarn recorded on his iPad during the band’s recent tour will be available for free on their website.

“On Christmas Eve a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released. Then, on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift,” band member Jamie Hewlett told Australian newspaper Perth Now.
Last month, Albarn talked about the album, which was recorded during the band’s recent North American tour. “I hope [it’s the first album ever to be made] on an iPad — which is ironic, being the sort of technophobe and Luddite that I am,” he told the NME . “But I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I’ve made a completely different kind of record.”
The singer said he hoped to have the album out before the end of the year. “I wanted to make sure that it came out at the end of the tour because I don’t want anyone to think I’d tampered with it,” he told Perth Now. “If I left it until the New Year to release it then the cynics out there would say ‘Oh well, it’s been tampered with’, but if I put it out now they’d know that I haven’t done anything because I’ve been on tour ever since.”
