Randy Travis Reportedly Completely Sober; Focusing On Health
To say that Randy Travis has had a difficult year would be an understatement. The 53-year-old singer was arrested twice in 2012–once for public intoxication and once for driving under the influence–not to mention made shocking headlines when he totaled his car and visited a convenience store sans clothing. However, it appears he’s finally acknowledged that he’s got a problem, and he wants to fix it.
According to TMZ, Travis’s lawyer Larry Friedman has stated his client has “eliminated alcohol from his daily life,” and plans to focus on his health.
Friedman also noted that Travis has been working out for three hours a day, every day, and “is in the best shape of his life.” Additionally, he’s apparently been sticking to a high-protein diet and taking vitamins. There’s no official word on his career front, but Friedman told TMZ that Travis is eager to get back to recording and recently visited a Texas studio to start working on some new music.
All of this doesn’t seem to be merely lip service. Travis joined folk-rock outfit the Avett Brothers last month for a CMT Crossroads taping, in which he appeared to be in fine health and good form. The special aired on November 23. He also performed at a benefit for the Texas Wounded Warriors Foundation early in October, and is currently scheduled to play several shows in Nevada before the end of the year, including two nights at Las Vegas’s Golden Nugget.
