Kid Rock Jailed for Brawl
Early this morning, Kid Rock was charged with a misdemeanor assault for punching a DJ at Nashville strip club Christie’s Cabaret at 3 a.m. The thirty-four-year-old rock/rap star was arrested and made to appear before Night Court at 8:30, and was held until he posted the $3,000 bail.
“Inside the establishment, there was a squabble concerning, I guess, the selection of music,” Sgt. James Smith said in a statement to reporters. Neither Detroit artist Rock, born Bob Ritchie, nor the DJ, identified as Jay Campos, sustained serious injuries.
Before events took a turn for the raunchy, Rock spent yesterday at a memorial at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium (formerly the Grand Ole Opry) for songwriter/promoter Merle Kilgore, who died on February 6th of lung cancer. Kilgore co-wrote the Johnny Cash classic “Ring of Fire” with June Carter, managed Hank Williams Jr. and worked with Hank Williams Sr. Travis Tritt and Williams Jr. were among those in attendance, and Big and Rich performed sets in Kilgore’s honor. Rock played an acoustic version of Williams Sr.’s “I Saw the Light.”
Kid Rock was recently rejected from the lineup for the youth concert in conjunction with last month’s presidential inauguration at the request of the Christian lobby.
