The Circle
The Circle, from the gifted Iranian director Jafar Panahi (The White Balloon), is a political fireball that's banned in Iran. Beginning in a maternity ward and ending in a police station, the film shows a circle of women who struggle against a restrictive male power structure that makes their lives a prison. With a simplicity that belies his theme, Panahi creates a raw, riveting film that pulls you up short.
