Dragonfly
I could puke. The worst trailer in recent memory has to be the one for Dragonfly, an alleged thriller starring Kevin Costner as a doctor who thinks his dead wife is using his patients to tell him something. Costner could certainly use someone to tell him to make better movies. Director Tom Shadyac, who belongs with the damned for perpetrating Patch Adams, trots out every ghost trick from The Sixth Sense to The Mothman Prophecies. Yet Dragonfly is rewarded with a wide release, while Frederick Wiseman's unforgettably powerful Domestic Violence, a documentary set in a Florida shelter for abused women, goes begging. And Metropolis, a stunning display of Japanese anime that will drop your jaw in admiration, gets lost in the Oscar hype for Shrek and Monsters, Inc.
