Taylor Hawkins’ The Birds of Satan Stream Eclectic New Album
The Birds of Satan—the side project of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins—are streaming their new self-titled album ahead of its release next week.

Clocking in at just under 34 minutes, the seven-track album features a surprising variety of sounds, from speed metal and raucous, scuzzy hard rock (“Wait Til Tomorrow”) to wistful acoustic ballads (the first half of “Too Far Gone to See”). In an interview with Billboard, Hawkins described the band as “just all real old school rock with all sorts of little flares and touches. It’s like a love letter to the music I love, a nod to everything, a homage sometimes.”
The band had previously teased the album by releasing a trailer (featuring Foo Fighters associate Drew Hester as a deadbeat divorcé) and singles “Thanks for the Line” and “Pieces of the Puzzle.”
Hawkins announced the band’s debut last month, teaming up with bassist Wiley Hodgden and guitarist Mick Murphy. The trio are also known for performing as Chevy Metal, a cover band specializing in deep cuts of ’70s rock mainstays like Black Sabbath, Queen and Van Halen. The Birds of Satan LP also features guest appearances from Hawkins’ Foo bandmates Dave Grohl and Pat Smear.
As for the Foos, Hawkins’ main band is still very much active. The band performed live during Super Bowl week and is reportedly working on new material. In an interview with Rolling Stone last year, Grohl said Foo Fighters are “writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before.”
The Birds of Satan will be released on April 15. Stream the album below:
