Bob Geldof’s Daughter Peaches Dead at 25
Peaches Geldof, daughter of musician Bob Geldof and a television presenter, writer and model, died Monday afternoon at age 25, according to BBC News.
“At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained and sudden,” Kent Police told the U.K.-based news outlet. Police were called to an address in Kent and subsequently found Geldof, who was pronounced dead by local ambulance officials.
Bob Geldof released a statement following his daughter’s death, according to Associated Press. “Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us. Writing ‘was’ destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is. [Geldof’s husband] Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken. Bob, Jeanne, Fifi, Pixie and Tiger Geldof.”
“My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons, and I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts every day. We shall love her forever,” Peaches’ husband Thomas Cohen said in a statement.
Geldof was involved in a number of professions throughout her life. As a teenager, she contributed regular columns to Elle Girl, the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian on a variety of issues and became a model at 18, appearing on numerous catwalks and magazine covers.
But Geldof was best known for her documentaries exploring teenage life. In 2005, at the age of 16, Geldof wrote and presented the documentary Peaches Geldof: Teenage Mind, following that up the next year with Peaches Geldof: Teen America. In its review of the latter, the Guardian called it “a cavalcade of screwy teens [that] duly spill its guts to Peaches in a way that might have eluded a more erudite and less winsome interrogator.” The show found Geldof visiting various socioeconomic and cultural groups of teenagers, including privileged teens in Orange County, Calif., religious fundamentalists and teens interested in getting their heads cryogenically frozen after death. Other shows would follow, including the 2008 reality show Peaches: Disappear Here and 2011 talk show OMG! With Peaches Geldolf.
Geldof’s father, Bob, first gained fame as frontman of Irish punk band the Boomtown Rats before co-founding international charities Live Aid and Band Aid, which staged a series of concerts raising money for humanitarian causes.
She is survived by her father Bob, sisters Fifi Trixibelle and Pixie, half-sister, Tiger Lily Hutchence, husband Thomas Cohen and two sons, Astala and Phaedra.
