Courtney Booked for Drugs
Courtney Love will be arraigned tomorrow in Los Angeles on a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance. The charge, handed down yesterday, carries a minimum of ninety days in jail and a maximum of one year.
The charge stems from an incident a week ago outside the L.A. home of her ex-boyfriend, producer and manager Jim Barber. Police arrested Love after responding to a burglary call around 2 a.m.; Love had broken windows of the house and was standing in the middle of the street when officers arrived.
“Her behavior was consistent with being under the influence,” a L.A.P.D. spokeswoman told Rolling Stone.
Then at 6 a.m., after Love had posted bail, Beverly Hills responded to “medical emergency” at her home, and she was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for an apparent drug overdose.
Love has responded to the charges on her Web site. “That controlled substance,” she wrote earlier this week, “one fucking word: Xanax.”
But police reportedly believe that Love was taking a controlled substance other than that prescription drug. Official drug tests are forthcoming.
Meanwhile, Love’s new album, America’s Sweetheart, has been bumped back more than three months and is now expected February 10th.
