Timberlake and Samberg Follow “Dick in a Box” With “Motherlover”
Host Justin Timberlake worked song and dance into nearly every sketch on this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live — his take on Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” while dressed as a giant breast implant was pretty amusing, and he also appeared alongside musical guest Ciara (clip after the jump) — but “Motherlover,” his new digital short with “Dick in a Box” costar Andy Samberg stole the show.
Set five months after their “Dick” bust, the pair of Color Me Badd-styled singers leave jail just in time for Mother’s Day, realize they have no gifts for their moms (their boxes are empty without the dicks) and plot an ingenious, filthy “switcheroo” over hero sandwiches — because what’s a better present than sex with your son’s pal? Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson guest star as the lonely cougars who play Mrs. Robinson for their respective son’s best friend, because “Every Mother’s Day deserves a Mother’s Night.”
While “Motherlover” won’t have the same impact come Halloween time that “Dick in the Box” had, it wouldn’t be entirely shocking if the catchy song makes it way to radio eventually, because we can’t get Samberg crooning, “It would be my honor to be your new step-father. And when you’re with my mother, make me a new brother” out of our heads. And really, is that any dirtier than “If U Seek Amy”?
Samberg’s last song-short came in early April with “Like a Boss,” a hardcore rap about workplace trials that followed the synth-poppy “Jizz In My Pants,” both of which are songs by his Lonely Island trio. Timberlake has been all over SNL this season, seemingly auditioning for a permanent cast position (since he’s not focused on a new album right now) — and based on last night’s performance, which is receiving the thumbs up across the Net, he has the comedic chops to pull it off. In addition to “Motherlover” and his prancing, crooning implant, Timberlake revived his brothers Gibb act with Jimmy Fallon and played an Irish immigrant dreaming of the day his “great-great-grandson will bring sexy back.”
Ciara held her own with two strong performances: “Love Sex Magic” with Timberlake on keys and backing vocals, and “Never Ever.”
