Bowling Green, Kentucky-based Sleeper Agent had a busy 2011. In addition to heavy touring, they released their debut album Celabrasion in September, were named one of Rolling Stone‘s Bands to Watch, had their track “Get It Daddy” appear in Rolling Stone‘s Top 50 Singles of 2011 list, and were named by Rolling Stone readers as the #2 new band of the year.
Celabrasion features the upbeat track “Get Burned” which has the strong guitar riffs and power pop hooks that catapulted the band into the public eye. Guitarist and vocalist Tony Smith explains that their catchy track “Get Burned” is very emblematic of the band – and was written very quickly. “Within a matter of minutes in early 2010, ‘Get Burned’ started as a riff that wouldn’t die,” he says. “The lyrics were improvised in the studio minutes before the vocals were tracked.”
While the track has a universally understood message of friendship, it’s also taken on a more personal meaning for the band. “‘Get Burned is a tug-of-war tune about the ebb and flow of conflicts in a friendship,” Smith says. “It’s a song that’s from the gut and represents our playful chemistry and spontaneous work ethic. It turned out to be one of the catchiest songs on Celabrasion, and it’s one of those songs we never get tired of playing night after night.”
