T-Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman Team Up for ‘Hunger Games’
The producers of the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel The Hunger Games have locked in T-Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman to provide the movie’s score and song production. Since both men are highly sought after in Hollywood for their soundtrack work, landing the pair is a major coup for the movie, which promises to be a blockbuster when it hits theaters in March.
In addition to producing albums by Elvis Costello, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, John Mellencamp and Counting Crows, Burnett has made his name in Hollywood producing the soundtracks for Cold Mountain, The Big Lebowski, A Mighty Wind, Walk the Line and O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2001 and has sold over 7 million copies. Elfman has composed the score for dozens of major films including Good Will Hunting, Men In Black, Shrek and most everything Tim Burton has ever directed, and penned the iconic theme song for The Simpsons.
“The Hunger Games is such a special property,” Lionsgate’s Head of Film Music Tracy McKnight said in a statement about Elfman and Burnett’s team up. “It has worldwide mass appeal, but it’s also sophisticated, cerebral, soulful and rebellious. We needed a composer who can translate these qualities musically, and we have not one but two incredible artists in an absolutely thrilling first time ever collaboration.”
