Clapton Joins NYFD Benefit
Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Billy Joel, Marc Anthony and Five For Fighting have joined the lineup for Paul McCartney‘s Concert for New York. The concert, scheduled for October 20th at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, was initiated by McCartney to raise money for relief efforts after the terrorist attacks in New York City.
The newcomers join James Taylor, Macy Gray, the Who, John Mellencamp, Melissa Etheridge, the Goo Goo Dolls and India.Arie, who were tapped for the event last week. Jim Carrey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jerry Seinfeld and John Cusack will also make appearances.
McCartney, whose father was a fireman in London during World War II, announced last month that he planned to host a concert in New York to benefit the city’s fire department. The NYFD counted more than 300 missing firemen after the collapse of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Proceeds will be directed towards the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which helps needy families in New York, the Twin Towers Fund, which benefits rescue workers as well as other relief organizations in the city.
Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster on October 8th. The concert will air live on VH1.
