Cream Brew Up N.Y. Shows
On the heels of their triumphant four-night stand in London, Cream have scheduled an encore — on U.S. shores. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame rock trio — guitarist Eric Clapton, bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker — will play three nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden from October 24rd through the 26th.
Due to personal squabbles and a relentless tour schedule, Cream disbanded in 1968 after a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. On May 2nd, they returned to the scene of the crime to begin a string of shows in front of uproarious fans and fellow musicians, ranging from Roger Waters to Metallica’s Kirk Hammett.
“The slings and arrows of misfortune cut us down in our prime,” said Clapton from the stage, reflecting on the band’s storied two-and-a-half-year career that yielded classics like “White Room” and “Sunshine of Your Love.” Baker responded, “What do you mean? This is our prime.”
The May shows have been captured for a two-CD live album and a DVD release, both due October 4th.
Clapton released Back Home, his new studio album featuring guests John Mayer, Steve Winwood and Robert Randolph, last week. It debuted on the charts this week at Number Thirteen.
