Motown Founder Berry Gordy On Miracles’ legacy and siring LMFAO
Motown founder Berry Gordy was on hand at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony to celebrate the induction of the Miracles, the band that backed “his best friend for over 50 years,” Smokey Robinson. The group established the young label’s reputation, said Gordy. “Once Smokey got a hit, everybody started running to Motown.”
Gordy, who said he is writing the book for a Broadway play about Motown, is the sire of “Party Rock”‘s LMFAO – Redfoo (Stefan Kendal Gordy) is his son, and SkyBlu (Skyler Austen Gordy) is his grandon, Redfoo’s nephew. Having grown up around the Motown family, Redfoo and SkyBlu “learned about what makes a hit record,” says Gordy. And now they help keep him current with pop music, he jokes – since they’re his offspring, “I have to listen to all their stuff.”
