Pavement May Reunite Again But Will Not Write New Material
Pavement multi-instrumentalist and hype man Bob Nastanovich has told Spin that while the group had a good time performing on their reunion tour last year, fans should not expect to hear any new music from the band. “At this point, Stephen [Malkmus] does not write songs for Pavement anymore, or songs in the Pavement mindset,” Nastonovich said. “I think he considers that part of his juvenilia, which is his own prerogative.” The group released their final album, Terror Twilight, in 1999.

Though he considers the prospect of a new Pavement disc unlikely, Nastanovich says that the group are open to playing more shows together sometime in the future, though the other band members have other musical commitments to consider in the near future. Bassist Mark Ibold is presently a member of Sonic Youth while both Malkmus and Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg have careers as solo artists.

If Pavement reunite again, it probably won’t result in another world tour. “I don’t know if we’d want to dedicate a whole year to it again,” Nastanovich said, “but I think it would be cool to assemble something at some point.”
