Courtney Hit With Warrant
Courtney Love was slapped with an arrest warrant Friday after failing to turn up for her arraignment on an assault charge.
Love was due to appear in a Los Angeles courtroom, but Michael Rosenstein, the lawyer of the troubled singer, told the court that Love (who turns forty today) was in New York. According to witnesses, he said she was not in attendance because she was “confused” over whether she was required to attend the court date because she does not have to appear on other pending legal matters.
The assault charge stems from an April 25th incident in which Love allegedly attacked a woman with a bottle and flashlight at a Los Angeles residence. Love turned herself into police on June 11th and posted $55,000 bail.
Disagreeing with today’s arguments by Love’s counsel, the court determined that her previously posted bail was forfeited. A bench warrant was then issued for her arrest and her bail was nearly tripled to $150,000.
As a result of today’s decision, Love will have to return to Los Angeles and surrender to police. She will then be given a new court date for the arraignment.
